Aerial lift trucks reach new heights with Strenx® steel

From Horyong’s 68,359 m² (735,810 sq.ft.) plant in Gimje, the company ships its aerial lift trucks, boom crane trucks, and eco-friendly electric-powered carry-deck cranes across the country. It also exports its products to countries around the world.

Truck-mounted aerial lifts are mainly used in construction and on work sites situated in high places, such as for building maintenance. With nearly 30 years of R&D under its belt, Horyong produces the tallest ladder lift and aerial-lift trucks in South Korea – the highest of these reaching 75 meters (246 ft.) up in the sky. To make the trucks become more efficient by lifting more material and reaching higher up, the structure needs to be as light as possible while retaining its strength.

“Strenx^® steel improves the quality of our products. By making vehicles out of Strenx^® performance steel, I think we’ll be able to reduce excessive weight and continue to achieve even more innovative designs,” Lee says.

According to Horyong’s sales manager Park Cheol, lightweight yet high-strength MEWPs made in high-strength structural steel will help the company to innovate new and improved products.

“We use Strenx^® steels because we want to keep up with the current global trend, which is making equipment lightweight. I think that this is something we can utilize in the future in the heavy equipment market to reduce weight and become even more efficient,” Cheol says.

“The certification means our customers rely on our products as they trust SSAB’s products,” Soo-jeong Lee says.
